lecture 7 - GI secretion Flashcards
What are the 3 broad categories of Gi secretions?
Lubricants, chemicals//enzymes, controls (hormones)
What are GI endocrine secretions?
Hormones that are secreted into the blood stream to alter motility and secretion of the digestive tract
What are GI exocrine secretions?
Substances secreted into the GI lumen for digestion, dilution, etc.
What type of cells produced endocrine secretions in the GI tract?
Enterochromaffin cells
What are some examples of GI endocrine secretions?
Gastrin, secretin, cholecystokinin, GIP, somatostatin
What are GI endocrine secretions usually released in response to?
A change in luminal contents
What are the 4 key GI exocrine secretions?
Water, electrolytes, mucus, digestive enzymes
What are the key digestive secretions from the salivary glands?
Mucus, amylase, lipase
What are the key digestive secretions from the stomach?
HCl, pepsinogens, mucus, water, HCO3-, gastric lipase, intrinsic factor
What are the key digestive secretions from the pancreas?
HCO3- (bicarbonate), hydrolytic enzymes
What are the key digestive secretions from the liver/gallbladder?
HCO3- (bicarbonate), Bile salts, Bile pigments
What are the key digestive secretions from the small intestine?
Hydrolytic enzymes, mucus
What is the key digestive secretion from the large intestine?
Mucus
