Lecture 4 (Anterior Triangle II) Flashcards
From where does the left common carotid artery branch off?
Aortic arch
From where does the RIGHT common carotid artery branch off?
From the brachiocephalic trunk
What is the carotid sinus, what is its role and what nerve innervate it?
Enlargement at the bifurcation of the common carotid artery, play role in mentoring BP and keep it within normal homeostatic value.
Innervated by CN IX via carotid sinus nerve and CN X
What is the carotid body, what’s it’s role and what nerves innervate it?
At the bifurcation of the common carotid artery near the carotid sheath. House of chemoreceptors and play a role in regulating blood O2 PH &CO2. Responds in emergency situations by increasing respiration, blood
pressure & cardiac rate (not as much at rest)
Same as carotid sinus innervated by CV IX via carotid sinus nerve and CN X
What are the 8 branches of the external carotid artery?
• Superior thyroid
• Ascending pharyngeal
• Lingual
• Facial
• Occipital
• Posterior auricular
• Superficial temporal
• Maxillary
What nerve innervate the platysma muscle?
Facial nerve CN VII
What nerves are in cervical plexus
C1, C2-C4
What nerves are the brachial plexus
C5-T1
