Lecture 2 (Posterior Triangle) Flashcards
What is the role of fascia?
Protection and slipperiness to allow structure to slide over each other
What’s the two types of fascia
Superficial fascia & deep fascia (form carotid sheath and strong enough for suture
Name the three structure found in carotid sheath?
Vagus nerve, internal jugular vein, common carotid artery
What structure does the pretracheal enclose
Visceral are trachea oesophagus and thyroid gland
Muscular is infrahyoid muscle
What are the subdivisions of lateral cervical region of posterior triangle of the neck?
Occipital triangle, superior belly of omohyiod muscle and subclavian region
What nerve innervate the sternocleidomastoid muscle?
Spinal accessory nerve CN XI
What’s the action of SCM?
Draw head forward both muscle works (bilaterally)
Tilt head towards ipsilateral shoulder while turning head unilaterally
Whats the action of trapezius muscle, what nerve innervate this muscle?
Assists in rotating scapula during abduction of humerus; upper fibres elevate, middle adduct & lower depress scapula
Spinal accessory nerve CNXI
Ansa cervicalis
Anterior rami of c1 to c3
Innervate infrahyoid muscles
Cervical plexus
Anterior rami of c1, C2toC4
Internal jugular vein drains into external jugular vein which drains into subclavian vein
