Lecture 15 (TMJ And Muscles Of Mastication) Flashcards
What are the five TMJ movement?
Protrusion
Retraction
Elevation
Depression
Lateral movement (chewing and grinding)
What cause the risk of dislocation?
The TMJ is most unstable during depression as the condylar process move anteriorly and lie beneath the articulator eminences making the anterior head more vulnerable to anterior dislocation
What CN supplies muscles of mastications?
CN V trigeminal
What branch of the trigeminal nerve innervate the temporal muscle?
Temporal nerves from mandibular trigeminal nerve
Action of the temporal muscle?
Elevate and retract the mandible
What branch of CN V innervate the masseter muscle?
V3 masseteric nerve
Action of the masseter muscle?
Powerful elevator
It has three parts (superficial, middle and deep part)
Palpable while clenching teeth
What nerve innervate the medial pterygoid muscle?
Main trunk of cv v3
What nerve innervate the lateral pterygoid muscle
Lateral pterygoid and buccal nerve of anterior trunk of CN V3
Name three ligament of TMJ
Lateral ligament = prevent dislocation
Stylomandibular ligament = thickening parotid capsule
Sphenomandibular ligament= support the mandible
