Explain alveolar flow calculation?
dead space volume inhaled first, 2 lots of fresh air inhaled and converted, 3rd bit of fresh air is first part exhaled which is equal amount to dead space volume
Calculating volumes of carbon dioxide (exhaled = alveolar + dead space)?
Total volume of gas x fraction of carbon dioxide
Pressure and flow relation?
Flow = change in pressure / resistance
Distribution of air flow resistance in lungs?
progressively, resistance increases with relation to larger surface area due to increase no. passages for air to flow
Poiseuille-Hagen Law?
physical law giving pressure drop in a laminar flow through a constant cross section
