Lecture 3 -- Smallpox Flashcards

1
Q

Smallpox Pathway

A
  1. Variola virions are inhaled
  2. Virions travel/ are transported to lymphoid organs

Q

Smallpox Pathway: The skin

A
  1. Infected macrophage travel to the small vessels in respiratory mucosa and dermis
  2. Macrophage migrate to the epidermis and infect basal cells
  3. Basal cell infection leads to cellular necrosis and localize edema
