It is the raise in mean IQ over ages
What are three possible reasons for the Flynn effect?
- Better nutrition and healthcare
- Better education involving more abstract thinking/science
- Increasing complexity of the environment die to technology
What are eugenics?
The belief that life outcome is a direct result of good breeding/genes
What did Sir Francis Galton describe in humans?
“g” is a measure of general cognitive ability that is heritable
How did Sir Francis Galton test “g”?
Relating to the quality of use of senses eg. feeling how heavy things are, if pitches are different
Were Galton’s tests accurate in predicting intelligence?
No
What did Galton’s test contribute to general intelligence testing?
The statistical description of it was more applicable than the intelligence measures.
What does eugenics contribute to in politics?
The policy of preventing people with undesirable traits from breeding with those without
How does Social Darwinism relate to eugenics?
It is a theory that states that the “fittest” will thrive
What did Simon and Binet contribute to intelligence testing?
They developed the idea that some children should be put in different environments for extra help. They argued that environment was a large contributor to intelligence.
