Lecture 25 Flashcards
What are the two types of neurotransmitters?
- Excitatory
- Inhibitory
What are examples of Excitatory neurotransmitters?
- Acetcholine
- Glutamate
What do excitatory neurotransmitters do?
Cause depolarisation
What is an example of Inhibitory neurotransmitters?
GABA
What do inhibitory neurotransmitters do?
Causes hyperpolarisation
What are the two types of synaptic integration?
- Spatial
- temporal
What are the two types of synaptic integration?
- Spatial
- temporal
What are the two types of synaptic integration?
- Spatial
- temporal
What happens at spatial summation?
Depolarisation from inputs at different spaces travel along the membrane to the axon hillock
What happens at temporal summation?
Recieves lots of inputs in a small amount of time
What happens at temporal summation?
Recieves lots of inputs in a small amount of time
When will the aaction potential be generated?
When the depolarisations reach the threshold potential
What are the two types of synaptic networks?
- Divergence
- Convergence
What is the divergence network?
One pre-synaptic axon splits to more than 1 axon terminals (different directions from one point)
What is the convergence network?
Multiple axons approaching one cell
