Lecture 22 Flashcards
Extrinsic muscles
The muscles of the leg
Intrinsic muscles of the foot
-move the tarsals, metatarsals and phalanges and they originate and insert only on those bones
-Arranged in 4 layers
Intrinsic muscles on dorsal aspect
-extensor digitorum brevis
-extensor hallucis brevis
Innervation of the foot muscles
The medial and lateral plantar branches of the tibial nerve
Innervation of the extensor digittorum brevis
deep fibular nerve
1st layer of the plantar intrinsic muscles (3)
-abductor digiti mini
-abductor hallucis
-Flexor digitorum brevis
Abductor digiti mini
(I) proximal phalanx of the 5th toe
(A) abduction of the 5th tie and the MTP joint
Abductor hallucis
(I) proximal phalanx of great toe
(A) abduct the great toe at the MTP joint
Flexor digitorum brevis
(I) Middle phalanges of toes 2-5
(A) flexion at proximal interphalangeal joint
2nd layer of the plantar intrinsic muscles
Lumbricals
Quadratus plantae
Lumbricals of the foot
(O) tendons of the flexor digitorum longus
(I) extensor digitorum longus
(A) flexion at the MTP joints and extension and the proximal inter phalangeal joints
Quadratus plantae
(O) calcaneus
(I) tendon if flexor digitourm longus
(A) flex the joints of toes 2-5
3rd layer of the intrinsic muscles of the plantar muscles
Flexor hallucis brevis
Adductor hallucis
Flexor digit minimi brevis
Adductor hallucis
(O) base of metatarsal 2-4
(I) proximal phalanx of great toe
(A) adduction at the MTP joint of great toe
Flexor digiti minimi brevis
(O) base of the 5th metatarsal
(I) proximal phalanx of toe 5
(A) flexion at the MTP joint of toe 5
Flexor hallucis brevis
(O) cuboid, lateral cuneiform
(I) proximal phalanx of great toe
(A) flexion at the MTP joint of the great toe
Deepest layer of plantar intrinsic muscles
Plantar interossei and dorsal interossi
Plantar interossei
(O) base and medial sides of single metatarsals 3-5
(I) medial sides of phalanges of toes 3-5
Action - PAD
Dorsal interossei
(O) sides of the metatarsals
(In) medial and lateral sides of toe 2 and lateral sides of toes 3 and 4
(A) DAB
Intrinsic muscles on dorsal foot innervated by the deep fibular nerve
Extensor digitourm brevis
Extensors hallucis brevis
Extensor digitorum brevis
(O) Calcaneous
(I) dorsal surfaces of toes 1-4
(A) extension of the metatarsal phalangeal joints
innovated by the deep fibula nerve
Extensor Hallucis brevis
(O) superior surface of anterior Calcaneus
(I) dorsal surface of the base of proximal phalanx
(A) extension of great toe
Arches of the foot
Formed by the tarsal and metatarsal bones
Strengthened by ligaments and tendons
Allows foot to bear weight think (of a spring )
Arches (3)
Medial and lateral longitudinal arch
Transverse arch
Plantar aponeurosis (4)
The thickening of deep fissure in the sole of the foot
attached to the calcaneous and extends forward as a thick band
the fibre is diverge and form digital bands which enter into the toes and connect to the bones ligaments and skin
the function of it is to support the longitudinal arch
Deep fibular nerve innervates ?
Extensor digitourm brevis
First 2 dorsal interossei muscles
