Lecture 21 Animal Tissues Flashcards
Four types of tissues
– Epithelial
– Connective
– Muscular
– Nervous
Skeletal tissues:
-Skeletal muscles attach to bones
-The defining feature is voluntary control
Conformer
allows internal conditions to vary with the environment
Regulator
Control mechanisms maintain internal conditions
Behavioral control mechanism
Shuttling - moving to an environment w desired temperature
Physiological control mechanism
Negative feedback
- Set point for control variable (Body temp)
- Sensor (Hypothalmus)
- Control center (Hypothalmus)
- Effector ( blood vessels)
Endotherm
body temp determined by internal mechanisms
Ectotherm
body temp not determined by internal mechanism
Homeotherm
body temp is constant
Poikilotherm
body temp is not constant
Epithelial Cells
cells that cover the inside and outside of the body, including the skin, organs, and blood vessels
connective Cells
a family of cells that are closely related and work together to support and repair the body’s tissues and organs
Muscular Cells
The muscle myocyte is a cell that has differentiated for the specialized function of contraction.
Nervous Cells
specialized cells within the nervous system that receive and transmit electrical signals
