Lecture 20- Organisation of CNS+ PNS Flashcards
What are the four specialised parasympathetic ganglia?
Ciliary ganglion
Pterygopalatine ganglion
Submandibular gland
Otic ganglion
What does ciliary ganglion target?
Receives parasympathetic preganglionics from the oculomotor nerve and distributes parasympathetic postganglionics to the eye
What does the pterygopalatine target?
Receives parasympathetic preganglionics from the facial nerve and distributes parasympathetic postganglionics to the lacrimal gland
What does the submandibular ganglion target?
Receives parasympathetic preganglionics fom the facial nerve and distributes parasympathetic postganglionics to the submandibular and sublingual salivary glands
What does the otic ganglion target?
Receives parasympathetic from the glossopharyngeal nerve and distributes parasympathetic postganglionics to the parotid gland
Where are autonomic pre-ganglionic neurone cell bodies found in the CNS?
Synpathetic- Lateral horn in T1-L2 cord segments
Parasympathetic- S2-S4 segments and brainstem
The origin of sympathetic and Parasympathetic?
Sympathetic- lateral horn of lumbar thoracic spinal chord
Parasympathetic-horn of the medulla
What is the sensory division?
The sensory division has efferent neurones which sends their sensory output to the CNS.
What is the somatic?
The voluntary division of the PNS with motor neurones responsible for only the skeletal muscle
