Lecture 20 - Coagulation disorders Flashcards
1
Q
What can haemophilia cause?
A
Soft tissue and joint bleeding, bleeding after surgery and dental extraction.
2
Q
What do the test show for haemophilia?
A
The APTT test takes longer
PT and PLT are normal
3
Q
What are the consequences of liver disease on haemostasis?
A
Less clotting factor, fibrinogen and regulators -> because reduced protein synthesis
Less clotting factor function -> because vitK malabsorption
Lower PLT number and function
Increased fibrinolysis
4
Q
What do the lab tests show in liver disease?
A
Increased PT and APTT
Decreased Fibrinogen and PLT count
5
Q
What are the treatments for haemostatic disorders?
A
- Avoid causes of bleeding
- Pro-haemostatic drugs
- Replace missing components
- Donor
- Factor concentrate (Plasma derived or recombinant)
