Lecture 2 Part 3 Flashcards
What are some Variable performance Devices?
Nasal canula, Simple face mask, Non-rebreather mask
What is the oxygen concentration for Nasal cannula?
2-6 Ltrs, 24-35%
What is the oxygen concentration for a simple face mask?
5-12 Ltrs, 24-60%
What is the oxygen concentration of a non-rebreather mask
10-15 Ltrs - >60%
What is a fixed performance device? (O2 delivery systems)
Provide sufficient flow of gas to meet all the needs of the patients minute ventilation. O2% determined by flow rate not pt RR
What is a common Fixed performance device (O2 delivery)
Venturi mask
What are some indications for putting a patient on >60% O2?
Cardiac/Respiratory arrest, Acute respiratory distress, Hypotension, Asthma, Pulmoanry Embolism
What is a Variable Performance device (O2 delivery systems)
O2 delivery system that doesn’t provide all the gas necessary for minute ventilation. O2 concentration depends on amount delivered
What is Central cyanosis?
Systemic shortage of Oxygen
What are the 2 phases of breathing?
Inspiration and expiration
What is the normal pH values of arterial blood gases?
pH 7.35-7.45
Does the pH alone indicate acid base balance?
No – pH, PCO2 and HCO3 must all be within normal range, if any of them aren’t that indicates an acid base imbalance
