flexion
decrease the angle between two bones, bending (paired with extension)
extension
increase the angle between two bones, straightening (paired with flexion)
abduction
movement away from the midline (paired with adduction)
adduction
movement towards the midline (paired with abduction)
medial rotation
turning a bone towards the midline along its axis (paired with lateral rotation)
lateral rotation
turning a bone away from the midline along its axis (paired with medial rotation)
elevation
moving a body part superiorly, only mandible and scapula (paired with depression)
depression
moving a body part inferiorly, only mandible and scapula (paired with elevation)
protraction
moving a body part anteriorly, only mandible and scapula (paired with retraction)
retraction
moving a body part posteriorly, only mandible and scapula (paired with protraction)
pronation
rotating the forearm so that palm faces posteriorly (paired with supination)
supination
rotating the forearm so that palm faces anteriorly (paired with pronation)
plantarflexion
moving the anterior portion of the sole of the foot inferiorly (paired with dorsiflexion)
dorsiflexion
lifting the foot so that the superior surface approaches the shin (paired with plantarflexion)
eversion
turning the sole of the foot laterally (paired with inversion)
