Q

Explain latency/ persistence for herpesvirus

A

latency/ persistence for herpesvirus
-establishment of latency;
abundant viral gene expression and DNA replication and entry of viral genome and extinction of viral gene expression
-maintenance of latency;
no detection of abundant lytic viral gene expression or viral DNA replication
-reactivation from latency; external stimulus (stress) and productive infection (DNA replication)
the first phase is replicating and the virus will shut down and stop replicating and the virus comes out when you are stressed.

Q

Explain the vaccination of equine herpesvirus 1 & 4

A

vaccination of EHV 1 & 4

  • both live attenuated and inactivated vaccines
  • vaccines reduce abortion and CNS infection.
  • DON’T prevent infection
  • substantially reduce viral shedding

A

Aujeszjy’s disease
clinical signs
pregnant sows; abort or give brith to weak
feral pigs; no signs of disease
other animal; intense itchiness, become weak, unable to stand, difficulty breathing and die

Q
For Bovine alphaherpesvirus 1 discuss what is caused
subtypes
characteristics
what disease is caused
vaccination
diagnosis
A

Bovine alphaherpesvirus 1
genital infections may cause balanoposthitis
BoHV 1-1 subtypes have different virulence
BoHV1-1 more serve causes abortions
BoHV 1.2 doesn’t cause abortions
causes Bovine respiratory disease complex
which is due to environmental factors like stress, transport and immunosuppression cause more likelihood of the an outbreak of the disease
-vaccination; reducing shedding of virus
-detection through viral DNA via PCR

Q

For Malignant catarrhal fever list the types
reservoir host
clinical signs

A

Malignant catarrhal fever
there are 2 types ;
wildebeest associated WA MCF- alcephine gamma herpesvirus 1
sheep associated MCF, SA-MCF ovine gammaherpesvirus 2
domesticated sheep are the reservoir host
clinical signs
-muzzle and nares are encrusted
blindness
neurological signs
