Lecture 14 - Descending control of movement: Primary Motor Cortex Flashcards
1
Q
What is S1?
A
Primary somatic sensory cortex
2
Q
What does it mean when we say S1 is plastic?
A
It is subject to change depending on use (moldable)
3
Q
Where does the somatosensory info that the VPLn relays come from?
A
the body
4
Q
Where does the somatosensory info that the VPMn relays come from?
A
face/oral cavity
5
Q
How do phantom limb sensations work?
A
We don’t remove the part of the brain that represents the limbs that have been amputated so can sometimes still get sensations. Re-modelling with S1 does occur with time
