Functions of leaves
photosynthesis, transpiration, respiration, and storage.
Where does most photosynthesis occur?
Leaves
Transpiration
movement of water from inside the leaves to the atmosphere outside the leaves.
Respiration
Release of energy stored in photosynthesis
Petiole
Stalk which attaches the leaf blade tot eh stem.
Stipules
like leaf appendages. Found at the point where the petiole and stem join.
Sheath
attaches to the blade and stem.
Alterante Leaf Arrangement
Leaves that are like footprints.1 side of the stem to the other.
Opposite Leaf Arrangement
leaves side by side by on opposite sides of the stem.
Whorled Leaf Arrangment
Leaves that are in the circle all around the stem.
Simple Pinnate
Normal Leaf. - Many wines going from the cure to the outside with the openings.
Simple Palmate
Leaf with a centre, and many leaves sprout out from it. (e.g., weed shape).
Compound Pinnate
Long chain of leaves
Compound Palmate
Centre piece with many single leaves sprouting out. (e.g., flower shape).
Trifoliate
4 leaf clover shape.
