Lecture 10(unit 2)-skeletal Muscle Flashcards
1
Q
What are the 3 types of muscle tissue
A
-Skeletal Muscle • Pulls on skeletal bones •Voluntary contraction -Cardiac Muscle •Pushes blood through arteries and veins •Rhythmic contractions -Smooth Muscle •Pushes fluids and solids along the digestive tract, for example •Involuntary contraction
2
Q
Muscle attachment
A
-Direct (fleshy)
•intercostal Muscle
-Indirect
•tendon
•beiceps Brachii or abdominal muscle
-Attachment to dermis
3
Q
Aponeurosis
A
- Attachment of Muscle by thin, broad sheet
- Composed of parallel bundles of collagen fibers
- E.g. external oblique aponeurosis
4
Q
Agonist or prime over
A
- muscle whose contraction is chiefly responsible for producing particular movement
- Ex: biceps Brachii for elbow flexion
5
Q
Synergist
A
- Muscle that helps larger agonist work efficiently
- May provide additional pull or stabilize Origin
- Ex: barchioradialis for elbow flexion
6
Q
Antagonist
A
- Muscle whose Action opposes particular agonist
- Ex: triceps is antagonist to the biceps
7
Q
Fixators
A
-Opposing muscles that contract simultaneously to prevent joint movement
