Useful definition of personality
Personality refers to the characteristic patterns of thoughts, feelings and behaviors that make a person unique. Personality arises from within the individual and remains fairly constant across situations and time
Personality psychology is
The scientific study of the unique individual
Military training
Tries to remove the individual traits and homogenize people
Why take an introduction to personality course?
5 things
1 - interesting and useful
2 - I belong to a brainy and social species - we are evolved to be obsessed with patterns of behavior
3 - 18-25 is an age that highlights the importance of making accurate personality assessments
4 - Consider opportunities for development and change (uni is one)
5 - Discern valid personality concepts from questionable ones (myers briggs is BS).

What is the most useful way to organised our personality judgments?
What do we need to know about a person to know them well?
How much do ppl change in personality over their loves?

Why take a personality course?
Because we are a social species that codes personality information in order to meet the dual evolutionary challenge of living in groups - to get along and to get ahead.
