lec 11 anterior hip muscles & blood supply to lower limb Flashcards
(19 cards)
Is the psoas minor found in everyone?
no
What two muscles make up the iliopsoas?
iliacus and psoas major
Psoas major (ventral & dorsal fibers)
O: ventral - from IV discs and vertebral bodies of T12-L5
Dorsal - from inferior edges of transverse processes of L1-L5
I: all fibers converge into single muscle belly and through the combined tendon with iliacus into lesser trochanter
I: L1-L3 (twigs from ventral rami)
A: major hip flexor, side bending, pelvic stabilization during gait; other actions are considered
iliacus
O: iliac fossa, internal lip of iliac crest, lateral part of pelvic surface of sacrum, ventral sacroiliac and iliolumbar ligs.
I: thru combined tendon with psoas major into lesser trochanter and femoral shaft distal to lesser trochanter
I: L2 & L3(twigs from ventral rami)
A: major hip flexor; other actions are considered
Psoas minor
O: (anterior to major) from T12 & L1 vertebral bodies and disc
I: iliopubic eminence where pubis and ilium meet
I: L1 (twig from ventral ramus)
A: weak trunk flexion (does NOT cross hip
lumbar plexus emerges ___ ventral and dorsal fibers of psoas major
between
which muscles provide stability to hip joint anteriorly
psoas major and iliacus
What are the actions of the psoas and the iliacus?
trunk flexion and hip flexion
Which nerve in the lumbar plexus is the only one containing ventral fibers?
obturator
Which nerves will we discus that contain dorsal fibers?
Lateral cutaneous nerve of thigh
Femoral nerve
Muscular branches of the psoas and iliacus muscles
nearly all of blood to lower extremity passes through what system
common iliac arterial system
most of blood to lower extremity is carried by what artery
external iliac that becomes femoral
internal iliac artery supplies what
gluteal region and medial thigh
When does the external iliac become the femoral?
When it crosses under the ilioinguinal ligament
What are the four gateways to the lower
- Subinguinal space
- Obturator canal
- Greater sciatic foramen
- Lesser sciatic foramen
what is in sublinguinal space
femoral vessels &nerve
lympthatics
iliopsoas
pectineus
what is in obturator canal
obturator vessels and nerve
what is in greater sciatic foramen
Superior and inferior gluteal vessels & nerves, sciatic nerve, pudendal nerve, internal pudendal vessels, posterior cutaneous nerve of the thigh, nerves to the small lateral rotators of the thigh, tendon of piriformis
What can be found in the lesser sciatic foramen?
Pudendal nerve
Internal pudendal vessels
Tendon of obturator internus
Nerve to obturator internus
