What is developmental delay? Global vs specific?

A
  • Specific = behind other children their age in particular area eg language/social/motor
  • Global = late reaching milestones, behind peers in a range of areas

Developmental delay vs developmental delay with learning disability

A
  • DD alone will still allow for milestones to be reached just at a later date, they will continue to develop
  • If LD too, can impair development and lack reaching milestones as time goes on

A
  • Estimate of intellectual functioning - but only one component
  • Takes into account verbal comprehension, perceptual reasoning, working memory and processing speed
