Residential vs nursing home

A
  • Residential - accomodation and personal care eg help with washing/dressing, taking meds, going to toilet, some offer activities within and outside of care home
  • Nursing home - provide personal care but always 1 or more qualified nurses. Some offer services for people that need more care and support eg learning disability, dementia, other MH conditions or NG tube management

A
  • £600 per week for residential home
  • £800 per week for nursing home
  • Either pay for own care or financial help from local authority via adult social care or financial help from family

  • Implicit - subconscious bias, we are often not aware of it, affects judgement and behaviour in subtle ways
  • Explicit - beliefs and attitudes that are consciously held and person is aware of, openly expressed

  • Medical - symptoms/cause –> diagnosis –> treatment –> care
  • Social - person with different needs –> disabled by barriers in society –> remove barriers –> person is enabled
