Situational leadership
there is no universally applicable way to lead; leadership style must adapt with the situation
Inclusive leadership
promoting atmosphere of respect; all employees have equal ability to share/utilize their skills; requires willingness to listen and ability to communicate with diverse people
Participative leadership
allows all employees to be informed of/involved in operations
Transformational leadership
shared vision with employees; requires changing the attitudes and assumptions of the team while building commitment for the mission; defining characteristics: charismatic, inspirational, intellectually stimulating, individualized consideration
Theory X + Theory Y of leadership
Douglas McGregor; theory X = employees are lazy and motivated by disciplinary action; theory Y = employees are willing, hard workers who need to be shown importance of their work
