Transparency
free sharing of nonconfidential information; results in better-informed and more engaged employees; during decision-making processes it can build employee trust and be a recruiting or retention tool
Confidentiality in Employee Records
ssns, birthdates, addresses, phone #s, emails, benefits enrollment, medical or leave info, bank account info, disciplinary actions, grievances, employment eligibility data; information only given for legitimate requests, should get a signed release by employee
Confidentiality in Harassment Allegations
hr investigates allegations immediately; will be discreet but information obtained during investigation may be shared with people who need to know, including the accused
Anonymity
allows employees to partake in activity without disclosing name; surveys, manager evaluations, complaints, reporting ethics violations = all examples of when anonymity is used
Conflict of Interest
occurs when someone is choosing between best interest of company and personal benefit at company’s expense; like using company resources for personal $ gain, accepting gifts from stakeholders, giving out company info in order to mess with bidding/negotiating
Code of Conduct
set of behavioral rules rooted in moral standards, laws, and best practices that a company adopts and communicates to the employees; outlines expected behavior and disciplinary actions for violations; use ambiguous language to be applied to specific situations as they arise; employee involvement in its development = greater adherence
