LE Orthosis Assessment
A
- Patient should stand with any necessary support, with equal weight bearing
- Sole and heel should rest on floor, except toes
- Calf band should be below the fibular head (can cause peroneal nerve damage)
- Knee joints should match anatomical knee
- Check gait for any abnormalities
- After wearing orthosis, check skin for any irritations

- apply orthosis to limb before putting foot in shoe

A
- Usually easier to don on a bed or mat table

- the knee pad will loosen when upright

- in supine and fastened from the bottom upward

Patient instructions
A
- Keep orthosis and skin clean and dry
- Plastic shells can be wiped with a damp cloth
- Leather bands/straps can be washed with mild saddle soap and hydrogen peroxide
- Metal joints and locks may be whiped with a cloth and lubricated with a light oil if necassary
- Wear all or most of the time
