Layout and Print Flashcards

Q

1) What is layout?
2) How is paper measured in print publications?

A

1) Layout refers to where items are placed and laid out as artwork on a page.
2) Paper is measured in ‘A’ series of sizes. You will probably be most familiar with A4 size (210 x 297mm). These are from A10 the smallest, to A0 the largest. Starting with the largest A0 each one is half the square surface area of the previous size while retaining it’s same ratio.

Q

1) What is the 4 colour printing process?
2) How is colour separation used to print a full colour image?
3) What does CMYK stand for?

A

1) 4-Color Process uses Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black inks. When applied in successive layers, these four ink colours create a full colour image. 4-Color Process is the most widely used method for printing full-colour images.
2) To print a full colour image, the image is first colour-separated into four colours: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black. Each single colour, consisting of halftone dots, is then printed separately, one on top of the other, to give the impression of a full colour image.
3) CMYK: Cyan, magenta, yellow, K (black) stands for ‘Key’.
