layers of the skull Flashcards
1
Q
what are the layers of the skull
A
- skin
- dense connective tissue
- aponeurotic tissue
- loose connective tissue
- pericranium
2
Q
what are the 3 meninges
A
- dura mater - has periosteal layer and meningeal layer
- arachnoid
- pia mater
3
Q
where is dura matter found
A
- fused together in the canal cavity
- periosteal outer layer that lines the inner surface of the flat bones
- meningeal layer is the innermost kayaker throughout the cranial cavity
4
Q
where is arachnoid layer found
A
lines and follows the inner surface of the meningeal dura
5
Q
what are the projections of the arachnoid
A
- arachnoid granulations
- penetrate dura matter and extend into the superior digital dural venous sinus
- where the CSF returns to the systemic venous circulation
6
Q
where is Pia mater found
A
- tightly invests the surfaces of the brain and cannot be dissected away
7
Q
what is the epidural space
A
located between the periosteum and dura matter
- created by haemorrhage of middle meningeal artery or dural venous sinus
8
Q
what is subdural space
A
between dura and arachnoid mater
- created by haemorrhage of bridging veins
9
Q
what is subarachnoid space
A
- contains cerebral arterial circle of willis
- space between arachnoid and pia matter filled with cerebrospinal fluid
