Law of Segragation Flashcards
1
Q
what is the law of segregation
A
The law of segregation states thateach individual that is a diploid has a pair of alleles (copy) for a particular trait. Each parent passes an allele at random to their offspring resulting in a diploid organism. The allele that contains the dominant trait determines the phenotype of the offspring.
2
Q
What is the law of independent assortment?
A
the alleles of two (or more) different genes get sorted into gametes independently of one another.
3
Q
What are allels
A
One of two or more versions of a genetic sequence at a particular region on a chromosome. An individual inherits two alleles for each gene, one from each parent.
