DNA Structure and Replication Flashcards
1
Q
compare prokaryotic and eukaryotic DNA
A
Prokaryotes
- lack distinct nucleus - no membrane - enclosed organelles
- contained free floating ribosomes
- generally small size (1-10um)
- unicellular
- Domain bacteria and Archea
Eukaryotes
- A distinct nucleus, contains membrane - enclosed organelles
- Contain ribosomes
- Generally larger size (10-100um)
- Unicellular and multicellular
- Domain Eukarya
1
Q
what is mRNA splicing
A
2
Q
what are chromosomes made up of?
A
made up of exons (coding regions of dna - code for specific amino acid sequence in protiens) and interupted by introns ( regulating transcription of exons or genes)
3
Q
what is endosymbiosis?
A
relationship. one organsim lives inside other and behaviour as a single organism ( prokarypotic - eukaryotic)
