Large Aircraft Systems M2 Flashcards
How are most aircraft tanks vented?
Most aircraft tanks are vented to vent surge tanks located on the outboard ends of wings
What is the purpose of surge tanks?
Provides space for thermal expansion
How many collector tanks are located in the CRJ 700?
Two collector tanks in the centre tank
How do the tanks vent on the CRJ 700?
All tanks vent to the centre tank.
And positive pressure relief valves open above 5psi tank press.
How do you defuel a CRJ 700?
Suction defueling can be carried out the same service panel
Gravity Defueling also available through fuel drain valves but is much slower
What is the Auto Function for fuel transfer on the CRJ?
Transfer SOV(Shut off Valves) open to allow motive flow to transfer fuel from the centre tank to the two main tanks through two transfer ejectors.
A balancing system operates to balance the fuel between the two wing tanks.
- One operation is with a x-flow pump, the other is gravity balanced with an x-flow valve
What are the fuel control switches and where are they located?
- The only control switches are on the overhead panel
- The controls are for the electric boost pumps (starting and backup) and for fuel balancing between L&R main tanks
Where is fuel on board indicated?
Bottom right corner of the EICAS page
