How are Ailerons, Rudder, Elevators controlled and actuated on the CRJ200?
PCU (Mechanically controlled cables), Hydraulically actuated
How many Hyd. systems are on the crj?
Three independent hydraulic systems, (Hyd system 3 can run all systems)
How are Spoilers, Flight spoilers, and Ground Spoilers controlled and actuated?
Electrically Controlled, Hydraulically actuated
How are flaps and horizontal stabilizer controlled and actuated?
Electrically controlled and electrically actuated
What are the failsafe parameters of the primary flight control surfaces?
Control of aircraft can be kept if:
1) A component does not move freely or is disconnected
2) Loss of electrical power
3) Loss of hyd sys press in up to 2/3 systems
4) Shutdown of engine
Can control of the aircraft be kept if any or all of the secondary flight control surfaces do not operate?
Yes
Will Hyd. Power will be available in the event of engine failure and electrical failure?
Yes
How does the CRJ incorporate artificial feel?
Uses artificial feel and centering units incorporated into each primary flight control system.
The artificial feel and centering units are cam follower spring devices which increase the control feel resistance.
Where are the positions of the primary and secondary flight control surfaces shown in terms of displays?
EICAS (both prim and sec displays)
How is Aileron Roll Control achieved on the crj?
Controlled by 2 Hyd Operated ailerons
2 PCU’s per aileron connected to a common interconnecting input linkage
An aileron position transmitter (RVDT) will send an electrical signal to the EICAS
How are the handwheels connected together?
Linked by a cable system and an interconnecting torque tube that incoroporates a roll disconnect mechanism in case of a jammed circuit
How is aileron trim achieved?
Using an electronically driven actuator linked to the aft quadrants by a push/pull-Rod/Bellcrank system
How is control surface flutter prevented?
A flutter dampener is installed on each aileron in the event of a loss of hyd power to the aileron PCU’s during flight. Acts like a gust lock on the ground.
What does a Tension Regulator do?
Transmits mechanical input from the wing cable circuit to the PCU connecting arm assembly. The regulator adjusts to maintain a constant tension on the wing control cable circuit to allow for wing flexing and temperature changes.
What is the purpose of Spoilers?
Roll assist, ground lift dumping, speedbraking
How are spoilers powered?
By PCU’s through the SECU
Where does the SECU receive input signals from for Roll assist?
Roll Control Input Models (RCIM’s) in the aileron control cable when the pilot rotates its handwheel. (In this case the RCIM is an RVDT (Rotary Variable Differential Transducer)
