What is Language?
It is a system of communication based on arbitrary symbols.
Arbitrary means it is not inherently necessary, it could be something else.
What is Structural Linguistics?
It is the study of structure of language, contains 3 parts: phonology, morphology and syntax.

It is speech sound.
What is Phoneme?

It is the smallest unit of sound that make a difference in meaning.
What is Morphology?

It is the study of the forms of words.
What is Morpheme?
It is the smallest unit of the meaning of words. There are two kinds.
What is Bound Morpheme?
It is a morpheme that must be connected to another morpheme to have meaning.
What is Free Morpheme?
It is a morpheme that is able to stand by itself to be a word.
What is Syntax?

It is how words go together to make sentences. For example, English is the word order language.
What is Lexicon?

All the words in a language.
What is Sapir-Whorf hypothesis?
The hypothesis is that language determines experience.
What is Sociolinguistics?
It is the study of mutual effect of society and language.
What is code-switching?
It is switching between levels of language.
What is Dialect?
It is a variant of a language.
