It is a traditional story that is believed to be true and that occurs in historical time but it’s difficult to verity.
eg: Legends about George Washington

A

It is to reinforce the norms by pointing out the opposite

eg: “Princes and the pea”

What is Joke?

A

It is a short story with an incongruous ending.
aka: what is expected to follow does not follow. It’s the main thing that people laugh at.
One has to know the norms for the joke to be funny.
The less material wealth the more elaborate oral arts.

What is the function and structure of a joke?

A

It is to promote social solidarity and to reinforce the norms.
Two parts:
- Establishing the norm (set up)
- Violate the norm (punch line)

What is Riddle?

A

It is the puzzle in word form.
One cannot know the answer unless one already knows the answer.
It can be visual and can be very close to jokes.
No one has been able to explain why riddles exist.
