This is because access to rivers and docks are needed.
What does the suburban growth reflect?
It is low density and reflects the rising living standards across the middle class.
What does foreign competition lead to?
Derelict land.
What lead to terraced houses?
The ship building and coal industries caused the terraced houses to be built but when the industries were shut down the land became derelict.
What are the two physical factors?
Located near to the coast

What is an advantage of being near to the coast?
Ports can be built.
What is a disadvantage of being near to the coast?
Expansion to the east is limited.
What did the river do to the settlements?
It separated them until it was joined by a bridge.

Communities in the north and south are separated by a river.
The population increased due to industrialisation.
During the inter-war period, a large number of semi-detached and detached houses in Fulwell and Grangetown.
Deindustrialisation lead to job losses.
Regeneration created more jobs.
Aside from creating new jobs, what more did regeneration do?
It made the area nicer and therefore attracted more people.
