LAB fluids comparisons Flashcards
Use these whenever there is dehydration
crystalloids
these should never be given without also giving crystalloids
Synthetic colloids
A smaller volume of ___ is needed compared to crystalloid to increase the volume in the intravascular space
colloid - they’re bigger
these stay in the intravascular space for a much longer period than crystalloids
Colloids - bigger
Dog 90 ml/kg/hr of these should be given for shock
Isotonic crystalloids
Cat 45 ml/kg/hr of these should be given for shock
Isotonic crystalloids
5 ml/kg over 5-10 minutes
of these should be given for shock
Hypertonic crystalloids– 7.5% NaCl
Dog 10-20 ml/kg/day of these should be given for shock
colloids - less because molecules are bigger
Cat 10-15 ml/kg/day of these should be given for shock
colloids - less because molecules are bigger
