lab defects Flashcards
A string of glass extended across the interior of the container. A bird swing from side to side comes from the back. From seam to seam on the front side.
Birds-swing and spike
It refers to the finish which has excessive glass projecting upward from the inside edge of the finish.
Overpress
This defect refers to a thin, thread-like imperfection in the glass.
Filament
A finish with a crack running across the top surface and extending down towards the neck.
Split
It refers to a narrow, shallow, surface crack. The growth at the top of the finish is known as crizzled finish.
Check
The phrases used to characterize the poor distribution of glass includes thin shoulder, slug neck, choke neck, and heavy bottom
Poor Distribution
It refers to a tiny blister that usually appears on or near the sealing surface. However, it may appear anywhere on
the glass container.
Soft Blister
It refers to partial fractures, usually found in the heel area.
Cracks
It refers to any opening that causes leakage. It occurs most frequently on bottles with pointed corners.
Pinhole
It arises when a small glass piece is chipped away from the finish.
When this occurs, on the top, it causes sealing issues, leaks, and product deterioration.
Chipped finish
These are the most serious defect in the vitreous body. They are crystalline solid inclusions that occur in the vitreous body and significantly alter the look and optical homogeneity of glass products.
Stone
It refers to a sunken centre
in base of the container. It is described as a bottom that is sagging that makes
the container unstable when put on a
flat surface.
Rocker Bottom
It refers to inconsistencies of several components of the container mold, resulting In a poorly formed shape.
Mismatch
The excess glassware along the mold’s separation line forms a sharp edge.
Fin
In this defect, the finish is oval-shaped and can be pinched or flattened.
