diagnosing UTI’s, kidney and liver diseases, as well as hydration
What is the normal ranges?
yellow pale color, clear (not cloudy)
pH: 4.5-8.0
protein: neg
glucose: neg
katones: neg
hemoglobin: neg
gravity: 1.005-1.03
renal: neg
squamous: neg
WBC and RBC: less than 5/hpt
high levels could indicate?
pH: fruits, vegetables, diet, respiratory/metabolism alkalosis
protein: stress, cold, pregnancy
glucose: diabetes
ketones: diabetes, fever, fasting, high protein diet
hemoglobin: bladder disease, snake bite, TB, UTI, menstration
low levels could indicate?
pH: cranberries, high protein diets, metabolism/respiratory anlcaosis
urobilinogen: heart failure, malaria, mono, hep
specific gravity: excess IV fluids, excess hydration, hypothermia, impaired renal concentrating ability
Nursing considerations/patient preperation
Prep: no restrictions on anything unless given medical instruction
as appropriate, provide the required urine collection container and specimen collection instructions

confusion, fluid volume, kidney function
