Lab 9 Flashcards
Renal Hilum/pelvis
Enter/exit channel for structures of kidney (vessels, nerves, ureters)
Ureter
Carry urine from kidneys to bladder; contractions of SM propel urine
Urethra
Tube carrying urine from bladder to urethral opening outside body
Detrusor
Muscle of the bladder, contracts to urinate; stretches
Trigone
Triangular region of inner bladder of L&R ureters and urethra
Sensitive to stretch which signals to the brain
Renal Cortex
Superficial kidney with rich blood supply
Renal medulla
Deep kidney, contains the pyramids
Renal Pyramids and columns
Collect and transport urine from medulla to renal pelvis
Renal pelvis
Cavity to collect urine draining from pyramids, continuous with ureter
Nephron
Smallest functional unit of kidney
Filtration, reabsorption, secretion, excretion
Juxtaglomerular apparatus
Anatomical unit of ascending loop providing feedback for renal blood flow and GFR
Tubuloglomerular feedback
Macula densa
Cells in kidney that regulate GFR sensing influx through LoH, afferent arteriole constriction if filtrate increase
Juxtaglomerular cells
Synthesize, store, excrete renin (BP regulation)
Renal corpuscle
Glomerulus and Bowman’s capsule; filters blood
Proximal convoluted tubule
Primarily reabsorption, some secretion
