Lab 4 Flashcards
Aortic stenosis
Thickening and narrowing of the aortic valve
Harder first sound
Mitral stenosis
Deposits of calcium in mitral valve which causes narrowing
Harder second sound
Reasons pulse is stronger in some places
Proximity to heart, distance to surface of skin, diameter of artery
When do u hear turbulance
When the pressure in the blood vessels exceeds the pressure in the blood pressure cuff (systolic)
When do u stop hearing noise during BP
When the pressure in the cuff exceeds that of the artery again (diastolic)
BP in different parts of body
The BP is higher in lower parts of the body because there is more fluid and gravity pushing down on the vessels from above.
What happened when the arm was in the ice bath
The BP first increased and then decreased with time. Pulse slightly increased
Calculate pulse pressure
PP = Systolic - diastolic
Calculate MAP
MAP = DP + 1/3(Sys-Dis)
