L5 - Sampling Flashcards
What is Inferential statistics?
A set of methods that enable us to make
probabilistic statements about the
characteristics of populations on the basis
of sample information.
What is a population?
Is any entire collection things from which
we may collect data. can be finite or infinite
What is a Sample?
a group of units selected from the larger group. is a finite quantity that is intended to represent a population
What are the two categories for sampling
Probability (Random selection) and Non-probability( No random Selection)
What is Simple Random Sampling?
All members of a population have equal probability to be selected for a sample
What is Stratified Random Sampling?
Ensuring a sample is representative of different characteristics/types in a population (sample within each subgroup)
sample is proportionate or disproportionate.
Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling
Taking samples from stratified groups, in proportion to the population. (Proportionate/equal sample fractions)
Disproportionate Stratified Random Sampling
Taking samples from stratified groups that are disproportionate to the population size (Equal sample sizes)
What is Sampling Fraction?
The ratio of the sample size to the population size
What are Sampling Designs?
Probability and Non-Probability Sampling
