L16 - Correlation, Non Parametric Flashcards
1
Q
what is spearman’s r?
A
it is a variable used to test a hypothesis of a relationship between two ordinal variables with many ranks and few ties
2
Q
what are the assumptions for spearman’s r
A
- data must be ordinal or higher
- observations are independent of each other
3
Q
what do the values 1,0 and -1 one mean in spearman’s r values
A
1 = the rankings are in perfect agreement
0= that there is no relationship
-1 = that the ranks are in perfect disagreement
4
Q
what is the difference between spearman’s r and pearsons r values
A
spearman’s r value can be used for ordinal data and Pearsons can only be used for interval or ratio data
