L2 - Descriptive compatibility modes Flashcards
what is inferential Statistics
A set of methods used to make Probabilistic statements about populations on the basis of smaple information
what is Descriptive statistics
Computational and graphical techniques for organizing and presenting data. Summary values that describe a set of data.
what is Central Tendency
identifying the typical case in a distribution of scores.
what are three measures of Central Tendency?
Mode, Median, and Arthimetic mean
what is Mode?
the value that appears most often in a distribution of scores.
What is Median?
the middle value from a set of observations that has been ranked .
What is Arithmetic Mean
An average value
What is a weighted average
An average that takes into account the varying degree of importance of different values. Can be more accurate than a simple average.
what is Dispersion
the spread or variability in the dataset understudy.
what are three ways to measure Dispersion?
Range, Interquartile range, variance and standard deviation.
roughly describe how to measure Interquartile range within a set of values.
You take the middle value of the lower half of the dataset and the middle value from the upper half of the dataset and take the average.
What is Range, when used to describe a dataset
the difference between the highest and lowest values.
If I did a survey of peoples favourite ice-cream flavour. what Measure of central Tendency would I use to find the most popular one
Mode.
Does the Arithmetic mean display Dispersion or Central Tendency?
Central Tendency
Interquartile range, Standard Deviation and Range are all measures of_______ within a dataset
Dispersion
