L10 - Goodness of fit tests - Compatibility modes Flashcards
what is a goodness of fit test?
they compare and observed distribution of values to a known distribution of values, in order to infer similarity.
what are the Chi- Squared goodness of fit test Assumptions (2)
- nominal or higher
- two mutually exclusive categories
what is the Chi- squared test equation
x^2 = Σ ((Oi - Ei)^2 / Ei)
How do you find the critical value of X
on a Chi-squared table using Degrees of freedom and level of signifcance.
what would happen if the calculated value of Chi- squared is greater than the critical value.
you reject the null Hypotheses
What do you do if the calculated value of Chi-squared is less than the critical value
You Fail to reject the Null hypotheses
what does the Calculated Chi-squared tell us?
its measures the level of difference between the sample statistic and a known value. the greater the difference, the greater the value.
