Q

Is it true that “reducing the release of ODS into the atmosphere has no
impact on global warming”? Explain whatever you know.

A

That is not true - because the release of ODS are the reason behind global warming. When ODSs such as Chlorofluorocarbons and Hydrochlorofluorocarbons are released into the atmosphere from sources such as engines and factories, the CFCs when interacting with UV light from the sun break dissociate into chlorine particles that catalyse the depletion of the ozone layer.

Q

Explain what is an ODS Record Book and what normally is recorded in
it?

A

An ODS Record Book is a logbook used on ships to keep track of activities related to ozone-depleting substances (ODS). It includes:

List of Equipment:

All devices on the ship that contain ODS, like refrigeration and air conditioning units.

Usage Records:

Details of any ODS added to equipment, including dates and amounts.

Maintenance Records:

Notes on maintenance work involving ODS, including what was done and the quantities used.

Disposal Records:

Information on any ODS removed from the ship and sent to shore facilities for disposal.

Leak and Emission Reports:
Documentation of any ODS leaks or accidental releases, including dates and amounts.

Personnel Records: Details of certified personnel who handle ODS on the ship.
