Tautline hitch
Used as a climbing hitch. Rolls out. Need to use figure 8. Blake’s hitch is preferred.
Blake’s hitch
Climbing hitch. More uniform friction than tautline, higher tendency to glaze on a long or rapid descent.
Girth hitch
Used to attach a loop or length of rope to a caribiner, ring or another rope
Bowline
Strong knot for forming a loop. Do not attach to climbing line to carabiner or snap.
Running bowline
Often used in tying off limbs
Midline clove hitch
Used to send equipment up to the climber
End line clove hitch with 2 half hitches
Used to tie off limbs or sections of wood
Slipknot
Knot can be untied by pulling on working end. Slipped overhand knot
Sheet bend
Used to send a line up to the climber
Double fisherman’s bend
Attaching a climbing line to a carabiner.
Cow hitch with half hitch
Tied with eye sling, securing hardware to tree. Used for pulleys.
Timber hitch
Tied with sling. Used on large trees. Tie with larger pieces
Half hitch and running bowline
Used to tie off a section when butt hitching or lowering limbs or no secure point running bowline.
