Knee Questions Flashcards
Anterior knee pain DDx
PFP syndrome
patellar tendinopathy
Lateral knee pain
- iliotibial band syndrome
- lateral meniscus abnormality
- minor tear
- degenerative change
- cyst
Less common of lateral pain
- PF syndrome
- OA of lateral compartment of knee
- Excessive lateral pressure syndrome
- Biceps femoris tendinopathy
- superior tibiofibular joint sprain
Less common causes of anterior knee pain
- synovial pilca (synovial fold found along the superior medial edge of patella)
- pre-patellar bursitis ( most common bursitis around knee - tx: NSAIDs, servere = aspiration )
- quadriceps tendinopathy ( pain at quadriceps tendon attachment)
- infrapetellar bursae
- patellofemoral instability
Clinical PFP syndrome
- Swelling: small effusion possible
- Clinks/ clunks: occasionally
- Crepitus: occasionally under patella
- ROM - decrease if severe
- PFJ movement: restricted in any direction ( common restriction of medial glide to lateral structures)
Iliotibial band Syndrome clinical
- tenderness over the LFE 2-3cm above the lateral joint line
- Crepitus
- swelling
- repetitive flexion and extension may aggregate the patients pain
- positive sober test
muscles that extend the knee
RVT
Rectus femoris
Vastus lateralis, intermediairs, medialis
TFL
muscles that flexes knee
- semimembranousis
- semitendinosis
- biceps femoris
- gastrocnemius
- gracilis
- sartorius
BGGSSS (better get sucking)
muscles that laterally rotate tibial at the knee
Rectus femoris
Muscles that medially rotate tibia at knee
Semitendinosus
Semimembranosus
Gracilis
Sartorius
Popliteus – Lateral condyle of femur
Posterior tibia above
the soleus
4 causes of hemarthrosis
Fracture
Meniscal tear
ACL
Patella
terrible traid
medial meniscus
MCL
ACL
Giving way Ddx
- Muscle weakness
- meniscal pathology
- Pain inhibition
- cruciate instability
- loose bosy in joint
Peroneal Nerve palsy cause
total knee replacement
