Less common causes of anterior knee pain

A
  • synovial pilca (synovial fold found along the superior medial edge of patella)
  • pre-patellar bursitis ( most common bursitis around knee - tx: NSAIDs, servere = aspiration )
  • quadriceps tendinopathy ( pain at quadriceps tendon attachment)
  • infrapetellar bursae
  • patellofemoral instability

Clinical PFP syndrome

A
  • Swelling: small effusion possible
  • Clinks/ clunks: occasionally
  • Crepitus: occasionally under patella
  • ROM - decrease if severe
  • PFJ movement: restricted in any direction ( common restriction of medial glide to lateral structures)

A
  • tenderness over the LFE 2-3cm above the lateral joint line
  • Crepitus
  • swelling
  • repetitive flexion and extension may aggregate the patients pain
  • positive sober test
