A
  • mostly 2-3m above sea level
  • Poor quality of soils = bad agriculture
  • 80% population unemployed
  • Almost no tourism as no facilities, infrequent transport connections and poor infrastructure
  • Soils don’t retain moisture = water shortages
  • Vulnerable to el nino and la nina events

Advantages:
- Protect houses and infrastructure
- Don’t have to be expensive eg. people use sandbags, tires etc
- Provide temporary jobs

Disadvantages:
- Temporary
- Have to be repaired and rebuilt

mangroves advantages and disadvantages

A

Advantages:
- Slow down and disperse incoming waves
- Provide habitat for marine species for food
- Absorb carbon dioxide
- Filter nutrient runoff from land so reduce ocean pollution
- Relatively maintenance free

Disadvantage:
- Less effective then sea walls at protecting
- Take a while to grow
