- forced, economic, voluntary, temporary, rural-urban
- skilled = attracted by developed countries
- unskilled = attracted by emerging countries for labour jobs

Australian migration policies
A
- skills and points based system
- highly selective but successful
- small population compared to land size and ageing population = demand for immigrants and supports the economy
- benefited as it’s an island so no borders making illegal immigration harder

EU and UK migration policies
A
- Schengen zone (1995) gives EU citizens freedom of movement = no border control or visa checks
- UK left Eurozone 2018 = increased illegal migration and deportation to Rwanda
- Increasing numbers of asylum seekers (from Eastern Europe and middle east seeking refuge west + south)
- EU citizens make up 53% of those who are denied entry to UK
- some travel to turkey as sea voyage is shorter and UK paid Turkish government to keep immigrants in Turkey
