Kingdom Plantae Flashcards
What is Botany?
The study of plants.
Two Categories of Angiosperms.
Monocots and Dicots.
Two Organ System:
Root System and Shoot System.
Shoot System is…
Above ground.
Root System is usually found…
Underground.
Plants have…
Eukaryotic cellular structures with some specialized areas.
Dermal Tissue:
Outside, protective covering, of the plant that also allows for gas exchange and the absorption of minerals.
Ground Tissue:
Provides storage for water, sugar, and starch, and also includes non-woody stems and roots.
Vascular Tissue:
Two types of Vascular Tissue that forms a complex set of pipes throughout the organism.
1. Xylem.
2. Phloem.
Meristem Tissue:
Made up of cells that are capable of continuing Mitosis and is responsible for ongoing growth and repair.
Root Function:
- Anchor the plant.
- Absorb water and minerals.
- For some plants, food storage.
Stem Function:
- Contain Vascular Tissue.
- Manufacture and support the leaves.
- Able to carryout Photosynthesis when they’re young.
- Can be used for storage.
Two types of Roots:
- Taproots.
- Fibrous Roots.
Hormones are…
Chemicals produced and then transported to another part of an organism to cause a response.
Tropism occurs when…
plants respond to their environment.
