Kidney Organogenesis Flashcards
Tubulogenesis
Cell organization to form tube structures
Nephron
The blood filtering unit of the kidney
Collecting duct
Glomerulus
Where blood capillaries release fluid and salts into the tubule
Intermediate mesoderm
Establish kidney location
BMP4 helps contribute to mesoderm patterning
HOX11 helps specify A/P patterning
Paraxial mesoderm
induces formation of the pronephros
Seen through PRX2 staining
Pronephros
Transient, non functional in humans
Mesonephros
“wolfian duct”
Nephric duct, elongates and gives rise to the ureteric bud that forms collecting ducts and ureters to carry urine to the bladder
Metanephros
Permanent kidney structure
Nephric duct
Gives rise to the ureteric bud
Ureteric bud (epethilial)
Forms urinary collecting ducts and ureters as well as induces the development of nephrons
Ends of UB branches release WNT 9b and WNT 6 which causes MM to M-E transition
Metanephric Mesenchyme
Makes all cell types for mature nephron
WNT 4 expression in MM causes renal vesicles which causes nephron formation
MM causes UB branching
